CIU Hosted Turkish Professor Yusuf Avar as Part of Erasmus+
Caucasus International University (CIU) hosted Yusuf Avar, Assistant Professor at Kilis 7 Aralik University (Kilis, Turkey), as part of the Erasmus+ academic staff mobility program. The academic part of the visit began on May 27 with a working meeting with Svetlana Kirakosyan, Head of the university International Relations Department. The parties discussed internationalization processes and future joint projects. Later, the Turkish professor met with the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Head of the Bachelor’s Educational Program in International Relations, Associate Professor Alika Guchua, and the Head of the Georgian and English-language Master’s Educational Programs in International Relations/Security/Global Politics, Professor Vakhtang Maisaia. The meeting discussed the features of the study programs and the importance of sharing international experience for students.
The official meetings were followed by public lectures delivered by Professor Yusuf Avar. The series of public lectures were for students of Caucasus International University, which were entirely devoted to the current issues and challenges of the European Union. On the first day, the guest reviewed the supranational structure of the European Union, its institutions and decision-making processes with the audience, and later focused on the role and nature of the European Union as a normative force in the international arena.
The lecture series continued on May 29 with another important topic - migration policy in the European Union. The professor introduced the students to the historical context of migration, the latest trends and the main challenges facing the European family today. It is noteworthy that the lectures were held in an interactive mode, which gave students the opportunity to actively participate in the discussion and receive answers to questions that interested them.
