Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili, Head of Media Programs at Caucasus International University (CIU), is currently undertaking a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at the University of Murcia in Spain within the framework of the European COST program (Action CA22165 “DepolarisingEU”).

The visit is hosted by Rocío Zamora-Medina, Professor of Digital Political Communication at the University of Murcia. The two researchers are collaborating on a project addressing disinformation driven by generative artificial intelligence and algorithmic polarization, conducting a comparative analysis of the South Caucasus and Southern Europe.

During the working meetings, the researchers agreed upon the analytical framework of the study, methodology, and the structure of a joint academic paper. The project focuses on the technological and media mechanisms involved, examining how modern technology alters the information environment across two distinct media systems. The impact of AI-generated content and algorithmic amplification is currently a subject of global academic interest.

The visit entails the plan for a joint publication, contributions to the DepolarisingEU research repository, and open scientific dissemination.

Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili expressed his gratitude to COST, the University of Murcia, and Caucasus International University for supporting this productive collaboration.

The parties intend to work on establishing a memorandum of understanding between CIU and the University of Murcia, paving the way for academic exchanges, joint research, and future international projects.

Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili’s academic visit further highlights the growing engagement of our university in European scientific networks.
