WINE TOURISM

A joint project of Caucasus International University (CIU), Georgian Wine Tourism Association (GETA) and the Global Wine Tourism Organization (GWTO) announces admission to the certificate course – “Wine Tourism”.

Wine tourism course is designed for those interested in wine tourism. The aim of the course is to provide or deepen theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of wine tourism.

Course Outline

I Meeting – Wine Tourism in Georgia

• Definition of wine tourism
• Main parties involved in wine tourism and role
• Geography of Georgian Wine Tourism

II Meeting – Viticulture and Winemaking

• Main Georgian grape varieties
• Basic technological schemes of wine making
• Qvevri and qvevri wine making technology
• Classification of wines

III Meeting – Art of Wine Tasting

• Wine aromas and limits for its perception
• Wine defect
• Wine diseases
• Practical exercises for sensory improvement

IV Meeting – Wine Tasting and Serving (practice)

• Bottle opening / pouring / decanting - Practical exercise

V Meeting – Food Industry in Wine Tourism

VI Meeting – Pairing Georgian Wine and Dishes (Practice)

• Masterclass: Pairing Georgian cheese with Georgian wine.

VII Meeting – Marketing of Wine Tourism

• Wine consumption culture: wine and society, drinking motivation
• The symbolic role and status of wine consumption

• Local and international wine festivals and exhibitions
• Digital marketing in wine tourism
• Project “Wine Road”

VIII Meeting – Creating Wine Tourism Products

• Specifics of small wineries in Georgia and abroad - Services and products
• Additional tourism services in wine tourism
• Creation of wine tourism products

IX Meeting – Family Winery “Georgino” (Practice)

• Family winery “Georgino”concept, positioning
• Transformation of the family winery into an object of wine tourism

• Key aspects of managing a wine tourism business
• Visiting the winery and wine tasting

Training Details:

Dates: November 24, 25, 26 and December 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11

Three days a week, 3 hours per day

Wednesday-Thursday-Friday: From 18:45 to 21:45

Saturday: from 12:00 to 15:00

Total Hours: 27 hours

Tuition Fees – 550 GEL

• Practice in Spanish Wineries

A successful graduate will gain the opportunity to undergo a two-week professional internship for free in Spain.

• Certificate: A bilingual certificate issued by Caucasus International University (CIU), Georgian Wine Tourism Association (GETA) and the Global Wine Tourism Organization (GWTO) upon the successful completion of the course.
