On June 12, a scientific and educational meeting entitled “Dental–Medical Collaboration: The Caucasus International University (CIU) Model for Enhancing Public Health Competencies” was held at Caucasus International University. The event was organized and led by Professor Lela Tsitaishvili, Head of the Dentistry Program at CIU.

The event, organized within the framework of the project, brought together:

    • CIU students from the English-language Dentistry and Medicine programs of the Faculty of Medicine.
    • Invited guests and students from Ilia State University and Tbilisi State Medical University.

During the event, students delivered poster presentations, shared their current knowledge and evidence-based international practices regarding the management and treatment of dental and systemic diseases.

The presenters explained that understanding how certain systemic diseases (such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, etc.) manifest in the oral cavity is crucial for accurate and timely diagnosis and management.

The students highlighted that successful treatment requires the simultaneous restoration of both oral and general health. This can only be achieved through an interdisciplinary approach and close collaboration between dental and medical professionals.

The presentations sparked an active discussion between representatives of dentistry and medicine, during which the speakers provided comprehensive answers to all questions from the audience.

The implementation of such projects and active student participation offer invaluable experience, helping to shape future public health leaders while they are still in their university years. To excel, public health leaders must be equipped not only with professional competencies but also with managerial abilities and effective communication skills. Educational institutions play a vital role in nurturing these leaders, and Caucasus International University is proud to be no exception.

The CIU Dentistry Program will continue to implement similar educational and scientific projects in the future, maintaining strong student engagement as a core pillar of their professional growth and development.

At the conclusion of the event, all participants were officially awarded certificates.
