    Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, CIU Chancellor at National Scientific Conference – “The New Reality of Georgian Wheat”

    On July 31, the National Scientific Conference titled “The New Reality of Georgian Wheat” was held in the village of Jighaura, Mtskheta Municipality, organized by the LEPL Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

    Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, Caucasus International University Chancellor and Honorary Professor of Odlar Yurdu University, delivered a speech at the conference. He placed emphasis on the significance of Georgian wheat research for the history and agronomic sciences of Georgia. According to Mr. Tsivtsivadze, the study, preservation, and utilization of wheat genetic resources are just as important as the research conducted on vines and wine. Additionally, he highlighted longstanding partnership between Caucasus International University and the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, and readiness of the university to continue providing both academic and financial support for vital scientific research in the future.

    The event was also attended by Olani Gotsiridze, the Dean of the Faculty of Viticulture and Enology, from Caucasus International University.

    The conference, organized by the Scientific Research Center of Agriculture, presented the latest scientific findings on the unique properties of Georgian wheat, emphasizing its key role in the biodiversity conservation, agricultural sector sustainability, public health, nutrition, and food security.

    Within the framework of the conference, the results of the research, covering the wide range of nutrient composition of five endemic species and seven local varieties of Georgian wheat, were made public. These studies were conducted in a leading Austrian laboratory that complies with modern scientific standards. Levan Ujmajuridze, the moderator of the conference and the director of the Scientific Research Center of Agriculture, stated that Georgian endemic wheat species serve as some of the best selection material within the global varietal diversity of wheat. The latest interdisciplinary studies confirm their unique nutritional values as a key component of human health care, food security and sustainable food systems.

    Representatives of the legislative and local self-government of Georgia, the Patriarchate of Georgia, scientific, educational, academic circles, international organizations, the food and healthcare sector, the Association of Wheat and Flour Producers of Georgia, Bread Producers and Farmers participated in the conference.

    The National Scientific Conference “The New Reality of Georgian Wheat” was held with the support of the Parliament of Georgia, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Ministry of Culture of Georgia, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the International Charitable Foundation “Cartu”, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the National Center for Nutrition and Food Sciences.
