    Study Visit of CIU Faculty of Viticulture and Enology to Spain

    On May 9-16, Olani Gotsiridze, Dean of the Faculty of Viticulture and Enology of Caucasus International University, visited Spain with the students of the Master’s Educational Program in Georgian Viticulture and Enology for the professional development and for raising educational-cognitive awareness.

    The visit was implemented with the support of Georgian Eno-Tourism Association (GETA), the special representative of CIU in Spain and the founder of the Spanish Center “Iberia” (Centro Cultural y Educativo Español “Iberia”), Mrs. Keti Gorgiladze.

    Within the framework of the visit, the representatives of CIU Faculty of Viticulture and Enology visited the collection of endemic Spanish grape varieties of the Botanical Garden of Madrid, Spanish bodegas, learned about the local specifics of grape cultivation and care, winemaking, sherry technology, the traditional method of making the Spanish “Qvevri” (Tinaja), and producing wine in it. They tasted many Spanish wines, got to know the current situation of wine tourism in the country and its development potential.

    Towards the end of the visit, representatives of CIU Faculty of Viticulture and Enology were hosted by the Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Spain, Alexander Chkuaseli.

    The visit was evaluated as an opportunity to gain a productive and multifaceted international experience. In addition, future plans were made with the participation of the Faculty of Viticulture and Enology of Caucasus International University in joint festivals and other events.
