    Tamar Kavtaradze, Head of Caucasus International University Library, has won the 2026 Academic/Research Grant announced by the International Association of University Libraries (IATUL) for her project “Optimizing the Use of Scientific Databases through Artificial Intelligence-Driven Systematic Review Tools: An Innovative Approach for Academic Libraries.”

    Head of CIU Library was on a working visit to Koç University, one of Turkey’s leading universities, from May 8-16.

    The project aims to optimize the use of scientific databases by integrating artificial intelligence (AI)-powered systematic review tools, in particular the Rayyan platform.

    The working visit to Koç University, implemented within the framework of an international grant, was dedicated to a comprehensive study of modern library services, systematic review methodologies, and processes for integrating artificial intelligence.

    The first stage of the visit, which took place at the University Hospital, focused on the specifics of library activities in the field of health sciences and the structural management of research processes. In addition, practical sessions were held, within the framework of which the leading platforms and digital tools supporting systematic reviews were introduced and used in practice. These included: Rayyan, Covidence, EndNote, Zotero and various artificial intelligence tools that serve to develop effective strategies for supporting researchers.

    During the visit, the Head of the Library had the opportunity to attend sessions held within the framework of the 7th International Library Staff Week, which was held at the main campus of Koç University.

    The main theme of this year’s international week was “Reimagining Higher Education and Libraries in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. Seminars, workshops and interactive sessions held within the framework of the event were devoted to such topical issues as:

    • Integration and responsible use of artificial intelligence tools;
    • Transformation of libraries in the process of teaching, research and access to information;
    • Development of professional skills and ethical responsibility in line with the requirements of the new era.

    The visit ended with a detailed introduction to the research support programs of the Suna Kıraç Library, a tour of the largest libraries in Istanbul and a study of their services and resources.

    Within the framework of the visit, the head of the library actively participated in the process of sharing global knowledge, established important professional contacts with international colleagues and discussed the prospects for future collaboration.

    The gained experience and modern approaches will contribute to the implementation of innovative, AI-based services and further improvement of educational and research processes in Caucasus International University Library. Furthermore, the innovative methods adopted will form the basis for the development of the “AI-based systematic review guide” planned within the framework of the project and its subsequent institutional implementation.
