    The goals:

    a) Introduction and development of University Lifelong Learning System;

    b) Development and Performance of the courses necessary for the students of the University and for raise of the qualification of the personnel;

    c) Support of language acquisition.

    Objectives:

    1. Preparation of Certificate and Learning courses/modules within the scope of Adult Education by Cooperation with the Faculties;
    2. Determination of the priority directions in Adult Education and preparation of the relevant courses;
    3. Development of working draft of the vocational education programs;
    4. Preparation and distribution of the relevant information on professional development events;
    5. Organization of the seminars related to the issues of trade knowledge deepening and the modern methods of teaching;
    6. Organization of preparation of professional development certificate programs for teachers;
    7. Organization of the qualification improvement courses (certificate) for academic personnel;
    8. Learning of the needs of the Faculties from the viewpoint of the professional development of the academic personnel;
    9. Organization of round tables and discussions;
    10. Organization of systematic trainings, qualification improvement courses;
    11. Establishment of relations with foreign universities, donor organizaitons, funds and other organizations.

    The Structure

    The Department includes:

    1. The Head of the Department;
    2. A Coordinator of the Language Center;
    3. A Specialist.

    The responsibilities of the Head of the Department are:

    1. Administration of the department activities;
    2. Identification of the priorities of the Department and liability for their implementation;
    3. Choosing a qualified trainer of relevant specialty for ensuring of provision of certificate and learning courses;
    4. Determination of the rules for admission of the applicants to certificate and learning courses.
    5. Definition of the price of certificate and learning courses upon agreement with the Chancellor;
    6. Signing of the Certificate/Diploma certifying completion of the course. Also, ensuring the process of signing by the Rector of the University and the trainer;
    7. Distribution of the obligations among the employees of the Department in accordance with the official instructions approved by the Chancellor, giving them instructions and tasks;
    8. Preparation of reports based on analysis of the monitoring of conducted training/courses and assessment and determination of future priorities;
    9. Presentation of the Department in relations with the third parties;
    10. Performance of other functions and tasks determined by this Statute, the administrative-legal acts of the University and the Georgian Legislation within his/her competence.

    The responsibilities of the Coordinator of the Language Center are:

    1. Organization of admission written tests for master and doctoral program in English Language;
    2. Organization of the exams defining the language competences for the students with foreign citizenship and provision of preparation courses for them;
    3. Organization of the preparation courses for International exams: PET, FCE, CAE, TOEFL;
    4. Organization of the language courses for all interested persons;
    5. Organization of training courses for teachers and workshops;
    6. Preparation of the tests for University Mandatory Course – General English;
    7. Ensuring translation of different documentation.

    Functions of a coordinator are as follows:

    a) A coordinator undertakes the duties of head of the service in case his/her absence;

    b) makes decisions;

    c) makes projects with the indication and determined plan by head of the service;

    d) participates in technical and procedural issues necessary for elaborating and approving courses;

    e) monitors trainings and courses, processes and analyses the data of assessment questionnaire.

    The Specialist’s functions are:

    1. Distribution of the information on certificate courses on target persons;
    2. Registration of the applicants for certificate courses;
    3. Provision of the organizational issues for conduct of the current courses;
    4. Fulfillment of technical works related to functioning of the Department;
    5. Fulfillment of other tasks, proceeding from the functions of the Department.
