Caucasus International University is distinguished by activities focusing on practical learning in educational sphere. The mandatory academic course “Tour Operating” offered by the Undergraduate Program in Tourism, within which students master how to organize the activities of tour operators, can serve as one of the examples. The course includes excursions and professional tours throughout the semester, however, due to the ongoing Covid-pandemic, most of the activities have been limited.
Lali Mikeladze, Lecturer of Tour Operating and at the same time Supervisor of the Undergraduate Program in Tourism, loaded the academic course with practical components by using computer technologies in the current semester. Students were paired (2 students in a group) and they were given the task of founding a mock travel company and creating a relevant page on the internet.
Students were given practical assignments related to lecture topics during 14 weeks, which were displayed on the company page. A presentation of the companies was held only towards the end of the academic course, in the 15th week to protect the exclusive creative data of all groups.
Lali Mikeladze established the Prize of the Supervisor of the Undergraduate Program in Tourism
in order to enhance the motivation of students. Correspondingly, top three mock tourist companies have been revealed, whose “founder” BA students were awarded in Abanotubani, Old Tbilisi on June 18. The students were also given branded university gifts by CIU Public Relations Department.

After the award ceremony, the students of Undergraduate Program in Tourism took a tour of the “Rock District” in Old Tbilisi.
