The joint training course of Caucasus International University (CIU), Georgian Eno-Tourism Association (GETA) and the Global Wine Tourism Organization (GWTO) – “Wine Tourism” was successfully completed on December 26.
The project started on November 24 and included 9 meetings, most of which were of a practical nature. The first week of the training was hosted by Olan Gotsiridze, Dean of the Faculty of Viticulture and Winemaking of Caucasus International University, as well as Givi Kuparadze, a tourism expert and Shengeli Kikilashvili, ampelographer of the wine company Shumi.
The second contact week was mostly loaded with practical elements. The participants had the opportunity to meet Dalila Tsatava, President of the Georgian Gastronomic Association. Within the framework of the meeting, there was held a master class – Pairing Georgian Cheese with Georgian Wine in CIU-based wine cellar. Another meeting was held in the mentioned cellar with Saba Kitiashvili, a member of the tasting commission of the National Wine Agency, who held a training on wine tasting/serving and also organized a tasting of different types of wine.
The third week of the training was dedicated to the training on the creation and marketing of wine tourism products conducted by Maya Meladze, a tourism expert and Tsitsi Tsatskrialashvili, a wine tourism researcher.
A field trip was organized in the family winery “Georgino” (Mtskheta) on the last day of the training course, where the participants had the opportunity to see the winery and taste wines. Giorgi Meshveliani, founder of the winery, spoke about the concept and positioning of the family winery “Georgino”, as well as the main aspects of managing the wine tourism business and marketing communications.
At the end of the course, participants wrote a summative assignment that will identify a successful graduate. It is noteworthy that the winner will gain the opportunity to have a 2-week internship in a Spanish wine cellar.
All course participants will receive a bilingual certificate issued by Caucasus International University (CIU), Georgian Eno-Tourism Association (GETA) and the Global Wine Tourism Organization (GWTO).
