The closing event of the project: “Business Studies in Support of Sustainable Development” was held at Caucasus International University on June 26. The event was organized by the Marketing Research Lab of the Faculty of Business and Technology.
The welcome speeches at the event were delivered by: Kakhaber Kordzaia, Rector of Caucasus International University; Marika Kldiashvili, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Technology and Tatia Bregvadze, Head of the Marketing Research Lab of the Faculty of Business and Technology.
At the event, five teams made up of students and entrants participating in the project presented their research results, which were evaluated by the jury members: Kakhaber Kordzaia (Rector of Caucasus International University); Marika Kldiashvili (Dean of the Faculty of Business and Technology); Marina Gedevanishvili (Head of CIU Quality Assurance Service); Jumber Maruashvili (FAO-UN Food and Agriculture Organization Policy Advisor) and Mariam Tevdoradze (USAID Agricultural Development Program-Business Services Component Head) and they identified the winning team.
It should be noted that a similar format project was implemented in Georgia for the first time by the initiative and organization of CIU Faculty of Business and Technology.
The project “Business Studies in Support of Sustainable Development” was officially opened on May 17 and continued for 5 weeks. Within the framework of the project, six trainings were held for the participants and field events was organized at Natakhtar enterprise. The participants went through a mentoring process, worked with 15 different retail, restaurant, hotel and distribution organizations, obtained the desired information and conducted interviews with top managers.
The main topic of the research was “Problems and Challenges of Food Waste Management in Supply Chains”.
Teams in the project: Ecolution, Growth, Polyphony; Olympus and Optimum Contribution participated.
The winning team became Optimal Contribution, whose research topic was: "The Role of the Supply Chain in the Generation of Food Waste, Waste Management Problems and Challenges in Distribution Channels”.
The winning team was awarded a cash prize of 500 GEL on behalf of Caucasus International University.
Lana Kipshidze, the Commercial Director of the partner company – “Aversi” presented Ahava brand products to the selected team.
The Head of the Business Services Component of the USAID Agriculture Program awarded 100 GEL vouchers from Biblus to the team “Growth”.
Jumber Maruashvili, Policy Adviser of FAO Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, presented the branded gift items of the organization to the chosen team “Olympus”.
“Biblus” company awarded all participants with books from the Blue Ocean publishing house.
Strada, a Georgian restaurant chain company, presented a 200 GEL gift voucher to the new restaurant, Oro, to the team “Ecolution”.
Ana Gedenidze, the representative of SMEDA- Small and Medium Enterprises Development Association, awarded the chosen participant with internship.
In addition to the above, sponsor and participating organizations were “Georgian Distributors Business Association”, “Pepsico” company and “Natakhtari”.
