Within the framework of the grant project of the Ministry of Justice, guidelines based on the best international practices, experience and theoretical knowledge of foreign and Georgian researchers were developed in order to facilitate the adaptation of the accused in the penitentiary system.
The guidelines cover such basic issues as: creation of appropriate conditions for the accused in the penitentiary; Implementation of developmental activities, psychosocial, supportive, including programs promoting communication with family members.
The United Kingdom court expert James McManus, who is a former member of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), participated in the development of the guidelines.
The project “Program for Adaptation to Prison Life” is the winner of the grant competition of the Ministry of Justice, which was won by the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law of Caucasus International University, Tamta Tsirkvadze, and MA student of the Faculty of Law of Caucasus International University, Revaz Berulava. Within the framework of the project, to reduce the stress of the newly settled defendants, the employees of the reception institutions, who have direct contact with the newly arrested prisoners, were also trained.
The Georgian researcher and trainer of the project, Givi Mikanadze, Associate Professor of Caucasus International University, conducted training for the employees of the penitentiary service at the Training Center of the Justice of Georgia and awarded certificates to the participants.
The Ministry of Justice annually announces a grant competition for strengthening civil involvement in the activities of the agency. Last year, 17 best projects were financed.
