A panel discussion was held on the topic: “The Idea of Secularism in Georgia - Legal and Theological Context” on April 10. The event was organized jointly by the Faculties of Social Sciences and Law of Caucasus International University.
The discussion was led by Tinatin Erkvania, Doctor of Law, head of CIU Undergraduate Program in Law, Associate Professor and Giorgi Pareshishvili, CIU Advisor to Rector, Chairperson of Niko Nikoladze Society.
At the panel discussion, they discussed the normative categories describing the constitutional principle of secularism and the corresponding theological aspects. The issue was presented taking into account the Georgian constitutional order and comparative legal perspectives.
Tinatin Erkvania spoke about the legal aspects of the issue, while Giorgi Pareshishvili focused on the religious aspects (the example of Christianity and Islam).
In the second part of the discussion, the listeners had the opportunity to directly participate in the discussion of the issue and ask questions to the speakers.
Nana Amiranashvili, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and George Khatidze, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, gave a welcome speech at the discussion.
