Niagara College Canada Delegation visited Caucasus International University.
On April 23, Niagara College President Sean Kennedy and Vice President Gord Arbeau met the representatives of Caucasus International University.
On behalf of the university, the following participated in the meeting: Chancellor Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, Rector Kakhaber Kordzaia, Vice-Rector Tamar Inasaridze, Advisor to the Chancellor for Science and Innovation Zviad Gabisonia, Dean of the Faculty of Law George Khatidze, Head of the Institute for US and Canadian Studies Nana Parinos, Deputy Head of the Department of International Relations Tamar Lagidze and representatives of the same department.
The prospects of deepening collaboration between Caucasus International University and Niagara College, especially in the direction of viticulture and winemaking, were emphasized at the meeting.
The guests learnt about the eight-thousand-year history of Georgian wine, the rich experience in this regard, and the activities of the university in preserving the mentioned unique culture.
Special emphasis was placed on partnership in the direction of viticulture and winemaking and their engagement in research direction within the framework of a new doctoral program offered by CIU.
It is worth noting that Caucasus International University is a pioneering institution offering doctoral program in viticulture and winemaking in the Georgian educational space, and the program will be loaded with active cooperation with foreign partners and a variety of practical components.
In addition, the activities of Caucasus International University "Institute for US and Canadian Studies (USACA)" and the projects implemented in this direction were also mentioned at the meeting.
At the end, the parties exchanged gifts, after which they visited the infrastructure of different faculties of the university.
The visit of the Canadian delegation continued later in the building of the Faculty of Viticulture and Winemaking of Caucasus International University, where they met Olani Gotsiridze, the dean of the faculty Davit Maghradze, the deputy dean for scientific direction and the administrative/academic staff of the faculty.
The guests visited the laboratories and the unique wine cellar founded on the basis of the faculty. Furthermore, they took part in the traditional process of opening the Georgian church, and the day ended with a festive dinner.
On April 24, about 30 students of Niagara College visited the Faculty of Viticulture and Winemaking. Canadian guests were given a theoretical and practical course on the topic of Georgian vines and wine by faculty representatives, which included the following topics: “History of Georgian Viticulture” - Trainer Shengeli Kikilashvili, “Varieties of Georgian Wine” - Trainer Giorgi Samanishvili, “Kvevri Wine and Tasting” - Trainer Saba Kitiashvili.
Each participant was awarded a certificate toward the end of the course.
