A discussion of the results of the working visits of program supervisors was organized at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Caucasus International University on May 24.
Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili, the Supervisor of the Undergraduate Program in Journalism / Postgraduate Program in Media Studies and Multimedia Production, evaluated the scientific-educational visit to the United States of America at the presentation.
As it was mentioned at the meeting, Caucasus International University, together with DePaul University (America), is actively involved in projects of international importance: Global Learning Experience and Global Conversations. Besides Caucasus International University, the program includes a number of higher educational institutions of the world, which, together with students, creates an opportunity to talk about: media, cyber security, information wars and other issues of international significance.
Within the framework of the visit, a joint lecture-discussion delivered by Zaza Tsotniashvili and Richard Farkas – “Disinformation as a Political Tool” was held for the students of the International Relations Program of DePaul University.
A lecture on media and politics of the transitional period was delivered by professor Burcu Degirmen, with the students of the specialty of Politics on the example of Georgia. It should also be noted that the GLE project published a collection of articles “Cyber Space and the World”, in which Professor Zaza Tsotniashvili took an active part on behalf of the university.
The parties expressed their readiness for long-term cooperation during the meeting with the head of the Department of International Relations at DePaul University, GianMario Besana. It is worth mentioning that CIU students will have the opportunity to participate in GC online project, which envisages attending lectures and discussions of American professors based on their interests.
The second half of the meeting was devoted to Vakhtang Maisaia, the Supervisor of the Postgraduate Programs in International Relations and International Security / Global Politics and Security Studies offered in English, and Alika Guchua, the Supervisor of the Undergraduate Program in International Relations, who summarized the visit to Poland.
In the results of the mentioned visit, several important issues were highlighted: Awarding Professor Vakhtang Maisaia one of the highest state awards of Poland - the “Medal of the National Commission of Education” by the Secretary of State of Poland, Mr. Tomasz Rzymkowski; Meeting with European Parliamentarian Karol Karski, where the parties discussed Georgia-EU relations and strategic directions in the field of education; Establishing a partnership with the University of Toruń and participating in the 10th Pacific Congress. About 300 scientists and researchers from Europe and Asia participated in the mentioned event, and Vakhtang Maisaia and Alika Guchua presented a joint report on China’s military strategy; Deepening the relationship with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and inclusion of Caucasus International University in the scientific journal – “Strategic Vision”, which has a high ranking in the Scopus classification of scientific journals.
The event was moderated by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Nana Amiranashvili, who thanked the supervisors of the programs for the productive academic visits and wished them success in their future activities.
The meeting was attended by the administration of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Caucasus International University, representatives of other structural units and students.
