On April 27, Niagara College delegation visited CIU Faculty of Viticulture and Winemaking, within the framework of the partnership between Caucasus International University and Niagara College Canada.
The group included Associate Professor Maija Saari, Dean of the Faculty of Winemaking at Niagara College, Professor Gavin Robertson and students from the same faculty.
The visit to the university included a one-day theoretical and practical certificate course on “Georgian Vine and Wine Culture”. The course included various activities: screening of the scientific-documentary film – “Georgia is the Homeland of Wine”; Doctor of Agrarian Sciences, Assistant Professor of CIU, Shengeli Kikilashvili’s master class on the topic: “Georgian Vine and Wine Culture”; master class of wine expert, assistant professor of CIU Giorgi Samanishvili on the topic: “Diversity of Georgian Wine - Peculiarities of Qvevri Wine”; The tasting master class offered by certified sommelier, visiting lecturer of CIU, Saba Kitiashvili.
The delegation was welcomed by Olani Gotsiridze, Dean of the Faculty of Viticulture and Winemaking of Caucasus International University, who told the visitors about the development of the faculty and Georgian hospitality.
The guests visited the infrastructure of the Faculty of Viticulture and Winemaking of Caucasus International University, namely: the viticulture laboratory, the enochemistry laboratory, the grape and wine microbiology laboratory, the experimental microvinification laboratory, the tasting room and the wine cellar.
Wines produced by CIU winery “Ethno Okami” were tasted, and a screening of the scientific-documentary film “Georgia, the Homeland of Wine” was also held.
The guests had the opportunity to taste the outstanding dishes of Georgian traditional table at Caucasus International University, as well as to receive the wines of the Ethno Okami winery as a gift.
Please note that Niagara College delegation’s visit to Georgia began on April 23 and will continue until May 7. Within the framework of the tour, Canadians interested in the 8000-year winemaking tradition of Georgia visit different regions, the National Wine Agency, wine museum, wineries, restaurants and churches-monasteries throughout the country.
