On October 27, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the partnership between the United Nations and the UN-Georgia, the “Sustainable Development Goals Lab” was opened at Caucasus International University.
Mr. Kakhaber Kordzaia, CIU Rector and Sabine Makhli, the Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Georgia greeted the audience. In his speech, the rector placed emphasis on the importance of opening the laboratory for the university and confirmed his readiness to actively cooperate with the United Nations. The Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations reviewed in detail the goals of sustainable development and the issues of Georgia’s involvement in it. UN DESA EAPD Economic Affairs Officer, Dr. Namsuk Kim, also addressed the audience through a recorded video, and the event was chaired by Giorgi Abashishvili, Dean of CIU Faculty of Business and Technology.
For reference, the sustainable development goals are a global call to action aimed at eradicating poverty, protecting the Earth’s environment and climate, and achieving peace and prosperity for all people in the world.
By opening the laboratory, Caucasus International University is the pioneering academic institution in the country, which shares the mentioned goals at the institutional level and actively cooperates with the United Nations to promote its implementation with the active involvement of scientific staff and students.
