A joint project by Caucasus International University (CIU), Georgian Enotourism Association (GETA) and Georgian Gastronomy Association (GAG) is pleased to announce admission to the certificate course – “Wine Tourism”.
The course will be led by experienced Georgian and Spanish trainers. Interested individuals will receive/deepen theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of wine tourism within the framework of the course.
Course Content
I Meeting – What is Wine Tourism and Its Component Parts
Introduction - Development of wine tourism in Georgia;
Main parties involved in wine tourism (Georgia), its role on the Georgian tourist map and unique features;
What should be the main messages in wine tourism;
What the wine tour consists of - basic and additional products, sustainable development of the regions.

II Meeting – History of Wine Tourism in the International Context
History of wine tourism; How and why it has become an integral part of basic tourism services;
Sharing international experience on the example of Spanish wine tourism;
Considering the example of Spain - What are the key components of a successful wine tourism? Country, wine diversity and quality, people or other?
Trainer: BEGOÑA FERNÁNDEZ BENÍTEZ, Professor at the Wine Tourism School of Catalonia; Tourism Professor at CETT, University of Tourism (University of Barcelona), Wine Tourism Expert.

III Meeting – Creating and Marketing Wine Tourism Products
Creating wine tourism product;
Commercialization of wine tourism product in the local and international market;
Finding the target audience and dividing it into segments.

IV Meeting – Wine Tourism Marketing, Visitor Segmentation and Creating a Service Culture.
How the consumer plans the wine tour, in particular, the travel agency. Collaboration between agency and cellar owner;
What the cellar owner should know about a guest’s consumer behavior - in terms of countries, guest receptors, habits, awareness, interest, purpose of the visit;
9 basic principles of ideal service: service staff, individual approach, communication skills, speed, flexibility, error correction, etc.

VI Meeting – Wine Tasting and Serving (practice)
Proper storage and serving of wine
Wine service standards and etiquette, required inventory
Planning and conducting various types of tasting;

Bottle opening / pouring / decanting - Practical exercise.

VII Meeting – Georgian Gastronomic Culture and Wine

Masterclass: Combining Georgian cheese with Georgian wine.

VIII Meeting – Wine Tour in “Iago Winery”
Iago Winery concept, positioning;
Key aspects of managing a wine tourism business;
Visiting the winery and wine tasting.
Speakers: Iago Bitarishvili - Winemaker, Georgian Bio Wine Producer, Founder of “Iago Wines” (village Chardakhi).
Marina Kurtanidze - Winemaker, Georgian Bio Wine Producer.
Meeting time/date: 9 July, 12:00-15:00 (3 hours)
Meeting venue: Iago Winery (Village Chardakhi, Mtskheta)
Transportation within the framework of the training is provided.

Tuition Fees – 550 GEL
Internship in Spanish Wineries
4 successful graduates will gain the opportunity to undergo a two-week professional internship for free in Spain.
Certificate:
A bilingual certificate issued by Caucasus International University (CIU), Georgian Wine Tourism Association (GETA) and the Global Wine Tourism Organization (GWTO) upon the successful completion of the course.
