The representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of Tbilisi Gldani-Nadzaladevi District of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia held a public lecture on the topic: “Violence against Women, Domestic Violence and Femicide”, with the support of the US Embassy in Georgia and the United Nations Women’s Organization, at Caucasus International University on March 6.
The lecture covered the following issues: strengthening victim protection and victim-oriented criminal justice policy, increasing the effectiveness of combating gender-based violence against women, family crime and sexual crime, as well as combating crimes committed with the motive of intolerance based on discrimination.
Within the framework of the public lecture, the existing legislative aspects and challenges of practical activities in the mentioned direction, as well as statistical data, were discussed.
At the lecture the main presenters were: Prosecutor of Tbilisi Gldani-Nadzaladevi District Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia Ms. Mariam Begiashvili (doctoral student of the Program in Criminal Law at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University) and prosecutor of the same District Prosecutor’s Office Mr. Mikheil Kiria. The deputy prosecutor of Gldani-Nadzaladevi, Ms. Davit Khvedelidze addressed the audience with an introductory speech. Ms. Madonna Uturgashvili, witness and victim coordinator of the prosecutor’s office, was also among the speakers.
The public lecture was opened by Caucasus International University Rector, Mr. Kakhaber Kordzaia.
The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Mr. George Khatidze, Deputy Dean, Ms. Tamta Tsirkvadze, Head of Undergraduate Program in Law, Ms. Tinatin Erkvania and students.
