Giorgi Khubua, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor of Tbilisi State University, held a public lecture on the topic: “Justice as a Principle of Law” on December 4. The event was organized by Scientific Research Institute of Constitutional Democracy of the Faculty of Law at Caucasus International University.
“At the meeting with the students, we tried to analyze practical cases on the example of several basic theories of justice. My goal was to show how difficult and problematic it is, even in banal and simple situations, to make the right and fair decision. There is no single and fair decision, there are several correct and fair decisions at the same time, among which lawyers always have to choose one of them. Everything depends on the argumentation that the lawyer uses in the decision-making process. We should try to make this argumentation as convincing as possible, so that the parties accept and recognize it, not as the only correct and fair one, but as the fairest one. That is why it is important to develop argumentation skills in the process of legal education, and also, we noted that it is key not only to know the basics of the theory of justice, but also to apply it in real life”, stated Giorgi Khubua.
The public lecture was opened by George Khatidze, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Caucasus International University. The lecture was held in an interactive format, where the students became interested in field issues.
