The National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia has granted the registration certificate of Geographical Indications and Appellation of Origin to “Ethno Okami” wine department of Caucasus International University.
The event was attended by: Soso Giorgadze, Sakpatenti chair; Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency; Olani Gotsiridze, Dean of the Faculty of Viticulture and Winemaking of Caucasus International University; Lasha Bodaveli, Director General of CIU winery “Ethno Okami”.
Among the invited guests were representatives of the National Wine Agency and CIU professors: Davit Maghradze and Eduard Lekiashvili; Chief winemaker of Ethno Okami, Saba Kitiashvili; Faculty representatives and others.
It should be noted that 2-year complex scientific-research works of the university faculty of viticulture and winemaking, study of technical issues, determination of regulations, etc. preceded the handover of the certificate.
The registration of the appellation of origin “Okami” will significantly help both the Kartli region and local winegrowers and winemakers in the development of the industry.
