“Challenges of Western and Eastern Modern Media” - a scientific seminar was held under this name on May 5 in Istanbul (Turkey).
The project was organized by the Doctoral Service of Caucasus International University and the Faculty of Social Sciences, with the co-financing of the chancellor, Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze.
PhD students of CIU Doctoral Educational Program in Mass Communication participated in the scientific seminar. They, individually, depending on the dissertation thesis topic, presented a paper on the specific role and importance of the media, its western and eastern characteristics, after which discussions were held in a round table format.
The scientific seminar was opened by the head of CIU Doctoral Service, Nino Mindiashvili. As she mentioned in her interview with us, similar projects will actively continue in the future and other doctoral programs will also be involved in it.
“Scientific educational-cognitive tours of doctoral students represent an innovative project of the Doctoral Service, which was implemented for the second time with the financial support of the university chancellor, Mr. Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, together with the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Ms. Nana Amiranashvili, this time within the framework of the Doctoral Educational Program in Mass Communication.
The active involvement of the Chancellor of the University, Mr. Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, and the Rector, Professor Kakhaber Kordzaia, in the scientific discussion, as well as in the educational events, added special significance to the tour.
I consider it is important that these types of activities, on the one hand, serve to develop the scientific skills of young people, and on the other hand, they are also interesting from the educational perspective.
The informal environment had a positive effect on the participants of the tour and earned their general approval”, noted Professor Nino Mindiashvili.
Doctor of History, Associate Professor of CIU, Ketevan Shoshiashvili, shared interesting information about the historical city of Istanbul with the audience, and also made a presentation on the topic: “Georgian Catholic Cathedral in Istanbul”.
Professor Ketevan Shoshiashvili discussed the fate of Catholic Georgians living in the 19th century and the importance of establishing a Catholic cathedral in Istanbul.
The paper presented by Khatuna Kacharava, the head of the Doctoral Educational Program in Mass Communication, was about Western and Eastern characteristics of the media, including similarities and differences.
“The issue of East-West relations is an eternal theme, which is presented with great intensity in the work of Orhan Pamuk, especially in two journalistic collections: “Istanbul” and “Other Colors”, - said professor Khatuna Kacharava.
In her report, professor Khatuna Kacharava discussed the strong and diverse landscape of Turkey, various media and platforms that serve both local and international audiences through the works of the leading writer-novelist of Turkish postmodernist literature, a very popular writer in her homeland, one of the most prominent contemporary novelists in Eurasia, Nobel Prize laureate in the field of literature, Orhan Pamuk.
As Professor Khatuna Kacharava pointed out, the media industry in Turkey is mostly privately owned and represented as a mixture of both traditional and digital media.
The meeting was also attended by: Caucasus International University Chancellor Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, Rector Kakhaber Kordzaia, Advisor to Chancellor, Head of CIU Multimedia Center Nino Chalaganidze and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Nana Amiranashvili.
