Caucasus International University School-Educational Project - The Art of Debating

Statute
“We argue not for debating but a result”
Project aims at:
Developing a culture of argumentative debating, critical thinking, rational use of conversation time, skills needed for searching the necessary materials or information among young people. In addition, how to use them properly, find a compromise and reconcile.
The project is open for X, XI and XII grade pupils of state and private schools.
Project Format:
We argue, we find a compromise, we agree;
The project consists of two stages: training and games;
Registered teams undergo the following trainings prior to the game – “Culture of debating”; “Agreement Document”;
After registration, teams are paired according to the chosen topics and the corresponding mentor;
At the game, each mentor has 4 teams, which are registered according to the principle of attendance;
The team consists of 3 players (captain and two players);
Discussion time - 1:30 hours (60 min. - for debate, 30 min. - for agreement / acceptance of communique);
The trainings will be held online, and on the day of the game it is mandatory to show up physically;
The mentor helps the teams with literature in the preparation process.
Assessment Criteria:
Logical reasoning;
Argumentative reasoning based on knowledge of facts;
Stating one’s own position;
Negotiation techniques and the ability to conclude a beneficial agreement (communique) for the team.
Project Duration – 1 month;
Project Topics and Mentors:
Politics
Gela Giorgadze - Doctoral student of the Political Science program at Caucasus International University, reserve brigadier general;
Topic – “What type of state is acceptable for Georgia (taking into account the territorial arrangement and form of government)”.
Tamar Chiburdanidze – Doctor of Political Science, Caucasus International University Professor, Expert of the Parliament of Georgia in Political Communications and Demographic Policy;
Topic – “What should be the political image of Georgia in the world: identity or ideality?" (liberalism and conservatism)”.
Law
Irina Batiashvili - Consultant on Gender Issues to the General Director of Tbilisi Energy LLC, doctoral student of Caucasus International University Program in Law, member of the Intellectual Property Law Committee of the Georgian Bar Association, scientific employee of the European University Law Institute, member of the Union of Law Scholars;
Topic: “Case under Article 10 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (European Convention).”
Irakli Nadareishvili - Head of the Department of Investigation of Crimes Committed in the Process of Litigation of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia; Doctor of Law, Associate Professor of Caucasus International University.
Topic – “The expediency of punishing defamation by criminal law and the freedom of speech and expression”.
Mass Communication
Giorgi Gogokhia - Doctoral student of Mass Communication Program at Caucasus International University;
Topic – “Traditional and social media”.
Business
Giorgi Kapanadze - Doctoral student of Business Administration program at Caucasus International University;
Topic – “Traditional hydroelectric stations or renewable energy (solar, wind and green hydrogen) stations?”
Koka Kacharava - Phd - Healthcare Research and Development Direction/Pharmacology (France), Doctoral Student of Business Administration Program at Caucasus International University (in Healthcare Management);
Topic – “Health and self-healing”.
Important Dates:
November 1 - 6 - registration;
November 12 - 13 - training;
November 14 - 19 - preparatory period;
November 20 - game and closing of the project.
