The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Caucasus International University includes three directions, educational programs in International Relations, Journalism and English Language and Literature. In total eight educational programs are implemented at the faculty:
Undergraduate Educational Program in Journalism is distinguished by practice-oriented teaching method. Students are able to acquire all practical and theoretical aspects of modern journalism.
Multimedia Centre gives students opportunity to transform theoretical knowledge into practical experience and make their first attempts in press, television, radio and new media. They systematically participate in preparation of periodical editions, blogs, radio and TV programs. Educational-creative studios and installations of modern radio and TV journalism are equipped with brand new technologies. In addition, computer classes operate at multimedia Centre;
Despite the best infrastructure that the university possesses, students of Journalism Program are given opportunity to master practical skills in different media outlets outside the educational institution. CIU has signed memorandums and contracts with broadcasting, printing and electronic media organizations, including Public Broadcasting, Georgian Association of Regional Broadcasting, news agencies, internet portals and press.
Our alumnni are employed and successfully work in a number of leading Georgian media outlets.
Undergraduate Educational Program in International Relations is focused on giving students profound knowledge in theory and practice of modern international relations; students study political ideologies and theories, the specificity of diplomatic and consulate activities and the analysis of political events with the assistance of highly qualified academic personnel.
The fact that focus is on implementation and strengthening of the practical components, alongside teaching the mandatory theoretical disciplines, should be considered as the peculiarity of the International Relations Program. The practice planned within the framework of the program is conducted in the centres and laboratories established by the university as well as in various international, public and non-governmental organizations.
In accordance to a student’s choice, a second foreign language is taught. Due to the high professionalism of professors and teachers involved in the program, students can, if they wish, study part of the course in English.
Undergraduate Educational Program in International Relations and International Security aims at preparing high qualified specialists, researchers and diplomats in international relations and international security who will have a profound theoretical knowledge in international relations and international security issues, methods for researching and analyzing political and security problems and solving these challenges independently.
The undergraduate educational program in English Language and Literature features an innovative curriculum and material-technical base, which, in turn, is equipped with a language lab. The mentioned infrastructure and curriculum are unique and have no analogues throughout Georgia.
The program has been developed by highly qualified academic staff, who are directly involved in the program implementation process. Our professors and lecturers have received their education from top universities abroad.
The undergraduate education program in English Language and Literature offers students the opportunity to participate in exchange programs at leading universities around the world. The head of the program collaborates with Western Carolina University (United States of America).
Postgraduate Educational Program in International Relations and International Security aims at preparing highly qualified specialists, researchers and diplomats in international relations and international security who will have a profound theoretical knowledge in international relations and international security issues, methods for researching and analyzing political and security problems and solving these challenges independently.
The program, simultaneously, gives thorough knowledge about conflict resolution, diplomatic relations and regional problems.
One of the most essential tasks of the current era in a rapidly changing digital environment, where knowledge immediately becomes outdated, is to overcome the existing deficits by using multimedia systems. The specialists prepared within the framework of the program will fulfil the needs.
Multimedia journalism is becoming more and more significant with the development of Internet technologies in Georgia which unites text, photo, audio, video journalism and makes context available from various platforms. The Postgraduate Program will, to a certain extent, meet the demand of highly qualified specialists in this direction in the labor market.
Multi-format media is a challenge for Georgian journalism education. Preparing specialists with the relevant knowledge and skills is essential to improve the quality of the work of modern media organizations.
In the given context, launching a new postgraduate program on the base of Caucasus International University, which has a distinctive Multimedia Center in Georgian university sphere, will be really important. The existing scientific-research environment and infrastructure create the best conditions for the new generation of researchers and practitioners of multimedia journalism.
The representatives of academic sphere face new challenges as the result of the rapid development of technologies: They need to prepare media specialists and researchers who will meet the demands of the time; experienced professors and practicing journalists involved in the preparation of the postgraduate program can guarantee the preparation of qualified staff. The program will provide the upbringing of the generation of researchers and practitioners who will facilitate the promotion of democratic values and build a vibrant civil society.
Doctoral Program in Political Science places emphasis on preparing highly qualified researchers for current problems of modern politics. Students will study in depth national security problems, issues of state restructuring and democratization, research and analysis of conflict management and regulation by taking into considering their individual political and scientific interests. PhD students conduct thematic seminars and take part in scientific researches. The program unites experts with international authority in political sciences.
CIU Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities has appropriate potential to prepare journalists and international relations specialists who will be competitive not only in Georgian but international labour market as well.
