A summer school was opened on the topic: “Peace Policy and Trust Restoration with the Occupied Regions” at Caucasus International University on July 3. It was organized with the support of the Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality.
The event was opened by Kakhaber Kordzaia, Caucasus International University Rector, who placed emphasis on the importance of the school and thanked the participants for their participation in the project.
The guest of honor of the summer school, the State Minister of Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Tea Akhvlediani, addressed the audience. The minister focused on the ongoing projects implemented by the Government of Georgia, which are aimed at restoring trust with the occupied regions, as well as the needs of the population living near the border line and displaced people.
The opening ceremony of the summer school was moderated by Giorgi Pareshishvili, Adviser to the Rector of the Caucasus International University, coordinator of the school.
The lecture topic of the first day was opened by the Associate Professor of Caucasus International University, Historian Ketevan Shoshiashvili who made a presentation on the topic – “Historical Overview of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region”, and the second lecture of the day was delivered by the chairman of the State Council of Heraldry, Mamuka Gongadze on the topic – “Towards the Symbolism of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region”.
The lectures were conducted in an interactive mode, where the students of the school had the opportunity to get answers to the questions they were interested in and to engage in discussion.
At the end of the day, the school participants received a practical task related to current conflicts in the world. The mentioned part was coordinated by Bakur Khubulava, the head of the Intellect Club of Caucasus International University, a specialist in international relations.
It should be noted that about 40 students from 13 state and private higher education institutions of Georgia are involved in the summer school of Caucasus International University.
The students will be offered lectures for a week, and at the end of the week the school will be closed with field activities.
