Statute

School-Educational Competition – “Official Language – a Measure of the Country’s Dignity” (hereinafter – “Competition”) is an author’s project based on Caucasus International University, which aims to: better acquaint students with the official language and related issues; Develop research, thinking skills, communication and collaboration skills in a competitive environment; Establish contact between schools and higher education; Get acquainted with the activities of the university and get involved in future educational processes.

The competition is dedicated to April14 - Mother Language Day. 10th, 11th and 12th grade students of all public and private schools throughout Georgia have the right to participate.

The competition consists of one section: Essay writing;

Essay section

Topics:

• Georgian language as the official language;
• Promoting Georgian language and state policy;
• Abkhazian language as the official language of Abkhazia and Georgia’s responsibilities;
• Language of modern Mass Media;
• Protection of the official language - European experience;

Competition stages and evaluation system:

• I stage, 1-10 April – Registration / sending an essay;
• II stage, 16 April - Presentation of essays selected by the commission and awarding the winners.

• The contestant should select one of the proposed essays and discuss the problems or facts with arguments.
• The essay submitted by a contestant is evaluated on a ten-point scale.

Evaluation criteria:

The paper submitted by a contestant is evaluated on a 10-point scale:

• Reasoning and logical thinking - 2 points;
• In-depth knowledge of the problem and ways to solve it - 2 points;
• Rationale, parallels and argument - 2 points;
• Essay construction and adequacy - 2 points;
• Essay language and style - 2 points.
