On May 6, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Caucasus International University hosted a public lecture delivered by Professor Ravza Altuntaş Çakır from Marmara University (Turkey). The topic of the session was “Islam and Women’s Rights”.
Within the framework of the lecture, the speaker examined the history of women’s intellectual movements in Muslim societies, tracing back to the 19th century to the present.
The global gender reform movement that has developed since the 1980s and has gained significance in the Muslim world, was also discussed at the meeting. Professor placed emphasis on the role of Muslim women theologians who have challenged patriarchal interpretations of Islam and advocated for a more inclusive and egalitarian understanding of religious teachings.
Ekaterine Chalaganidze, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, welcomed the guest as well as the audience and highlighted both the significance of the topic and the speaker’s expertise.
The lecture concluded with a Q&A session and a lively discussion.
