Ceremonial Reception Dedicated to Students’ International Day
Caucasus International University students who are refugees from Abkhazia attended a ceremonial reception dedicated to Students’ International Day at “Magti Jazz-Club”. They were invited by the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia. The event was attended by students and the academic staff of CIU as well as other higher educational institutions of Georgia and honourable guests. Students’ International Day has been celebrated in the whole world since 17 November, 1946. On 28 October, 1939 students and their teachers organized an anniversary event dedicated to the establishment of Chekhoslovakya in Prague which was occupied by fascists. On 17 November fascists laid siege to dormitories, they took more than 1200 students as captives and locked them up in a concentration camp. After two years, on 17 November, 1941 students struggling against fascism organized an international meeting in London. They decided to declare this day as Students’ International Day in memory of the students who were killed in Prague. Students all over the world organize different events, demonstrations and speeches on 17 November. The event was opened by Elguja Gvazava, chair of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia. Vocal-instrumental group of Creative Centre of Youth of Abkhazia “Dream” provided the musical accompaniment to the evening. In addition, boy band “Street Boys” sang a number of hits for guests. Murman Kvaratskhelia, Deputy of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia awarded Caucasus International University students with certificates, a thank you letter and presents. In addition, students received presents from CIU scientific secretary Eka Tkhilava. It is worth mentioning that CIU students received special offers from the representatives of Kor Standard Bank. The bank offers students internship program. After the award ceremony the audience had a chance to listen to live music and enjoy themselves.
